Orbie

A financial learning prototype where a virtual companion grows as the user completes lessons and works through goals.

Cursor Hackathon Singapore · 18 October 2025

Learning With a Companion

We built Orbie around short financial lessons and a virtual companion to care for. Users meet and feed the companion, explore a topic with the coach, and complete a quiz. Rewards and changes to the companion make progress part of the experience.

A goal map connects the lessons to aims such as building an emergency fund or paying down debt, with milestones leading into the next activity. The hackathon prototype shows this learning loop, not measured improvements in users' finances or habits.

Connecting Lessons, Rewards, and Companion Growth

Sharing Progress Across the Views

The frontend design puts tab navigation and shared React state in MobileApp.jsx. The companion, learning feed, goal map, and coach are views within that application. This gives the learning loop a shared place to hold progress as the user moves from an activity to its reward and back to the companion.

Making Learning Progress Visible

FlowCoach.jsx brings chat, message history, quizzes, and reward presentation together, while FlowWorld.jsx handles companion interaction and milestones. Three.js renders the companion and Framer Motion handles transitions. The goal map links milestones to the next learning activity.

The proposed service architecture assigns educational assistance to Gemini and account and progress storage to Supabase with PostgreSQL. The frontend design keeps the visible learning loop distinct from those service roles.

Coverage

Orbie was featured in CNBC's coverage of the hackathon.

In the article, I described the build as a personal challenge to see what we could complete within 24 hours and how far AI assisted coding had advanced.
