ProtoAI

A team hackathon project exploring how a hardware brief or sketch can become a set of design files to review and refine.

Design Workflow

We explored an interface for developing a hardware concept without separating the enclosure, electronics, and device software into unrelated tasks. A user submits a brief or sketch, reviews the generated package, requests changes, and downloads the files before continuing to a demonstration order planning screen.

The hackathon outcome includes generated sample packages for circular and teardrop wearable air quality pendants. These show the proposed design workflow and the files it produces, not manufactured or validated devices; the designs still need engineering review.

From Sketch to Design Package

Artifacts for Each Design

The sample repository groups the circular and teardrop variants into separate packages, each with mechanical, electronic, and software files. Reviewers can inspect each pendant's mechanical design, electronics, and software together.

Pendant Design Package

ComponentResponsibility
Enclosure STL filesDescribe the pendant's mechanical form.
PCB schematic and GerbersDescribe electronics and board layout.
Arduino firmwareProvides device logic for the pendant concept.
Bill of materialsLists parts, quantities, and reference designators.
Assembly guideExplains component installation, enclosure assembly, and checks.

Review Across the Package

The review connects the files to one another: the bill of materials identifies parts and reference designators, the board files describe their placement and connections, and the enclosure describes the surrounding form. Assembly guidance brings those pieces into an installation sequence. In the proposed workflow, a user requests changes to the package before downloading it and moving to the demonstration order planning screen.
