Beyond Excel: How OpenClaw Transforms Finance Workflows
I showed finance professionals how an AI assistant can help check accounting records, prepare reports, and draft reminders for overdue payments.

Check Records Before Reporting
At ISCA, I used sample Xero invoices to show why a finance assistant needs to understand the records before commenting on performance. It checked what kind of invoice each record represented and whether it had been posted, then compared the records with the profit and loss report and balance sheet.
I also showed how customer receivables can become payment reminder drafts. A person still checks the invoice, recipient, and wording before sending. The talk connects the accounting checks to the follow up work, keeping reports and messages ready for review rather than treating a generated answer as approval.
Connecting Accounting Records to Reports
Retrieve Records Before Interpreting Performance
The local isca-finance skill provided the procedure for requests made through Telegram. The public conversation moved from checking available inputs to retrieving Xero organization details, invoices, the profit and loss report, the balance sheet, accounts, and contacts. A skill's list of capabilities was not itself enough information to assess a business.
Invoice Type, Posting Status, and Reminders
The sample records distinguished ACCPAY supplier bills from customer receivables and checked DRAFT status before interpreting report totals. That distinction matters for both analysis and follow up: a draft supplier bill is not booked operating performance or an overdue customer invoice.
Google Workspace CLI, Google Cloud, and Gmail supported the reminder preparation path, with requests and reports returned through Telegram. Customer receivables could inform a draft message, but the invoice, recipient, and wording still needed review before sending.
Permissions Across Accounting and Communication
I covered Xero and Workspace permission scopes and authorization lifetimes, keeping invoices as drafts and limiting Workspace access to the communication task. Gateway, skill, and model location were separate choices: local orchestration can still send data to remote services, so the processing boundary needs to be considered alongside account permissions.
